To begin with the press along with the whole nation was overwhelmed by some of the most tragic happenings in our history, mass killings, and large scale of migration of population. By large mainstream press played a constructive role, through there were papers representing and promoting sectarian interests. The nation press could not remain undivided and partisan politics resulted in the press along taking sides with warning fractions in the party. Now of course we have whole newspapers sing with opposition parties. Simultaneously the ruling party has grown more and more intolerant of criticism. This has inevitability led to very undesirable consequences. At the moment we witness mixed trends. Some of our newspaper reporting is our world class quality. What is needed is an alert but honest press together with a polity that not only welcomes it but encourages and sustains it.

The socialist and democratic ideology of the state requires them to contribute to the well being of the ordinary people and to the overall prosperity of the nation. This purpose has been generally achieved by the nationalization of the banks. The useful activities of Banks are not confined to the urban areas only. Real benefits have come to the weaker sections in the countryside. Banks have opened thousands of new branches in the remotest villages and have made it possible for the poorest to the poor to get loan on very easy terms. Farmers are almost totally dependent upon the weather. But weather is most uncertain factor and a wise farmer has, therefore to make the most of his opportunities. Hay-making requires bright sunshine’s and is easily destroyed by adverse weather like heavy rain and fog. So the farmer has to put every moment of the sunny days to outmost use in order to dry the hay. Once he lets the right opportunity slip, he will have to wait for a whole year before accomplishing his task. Likewise every man must seize the opportunity when it comes for whatever he wants to do. Idleness and postponement of work can result only in delay and defeat. The truth is best borne out by those who wasted their youth only to repent in old age for the missed opportunities.

It was a rainy day. Next day I had to sit for my science examination. My class notes were with my friend Johnny, who lived at the other end of the town. It was already five in the evening and the rains might get heavier. I decided to take my cycle to collect the notes from him. After I passed halfway from my home, I heard a loud cry coming from behind. I stopped the cycle and turned back and see no one was there. Then I decided to start the cycle after moving 10 meters from that place I can clearly hear somebody is crying loud for help. Then I went to search I could see a broken motorcycle and a young man. He was fully bleeding and shouted for help. Suddenly I informed to the ambulance and wiped his face with my kerchief. After some time the Ambulance came and take him to the hospital. I could not forget this incident in my life.

This year’s election to the college union was very exciting. The Principal decided to hold them on a Sunday. There are five candidates for the office president and four for that general secretary. Multicolored posters covered all the walls and lines of bunting hung all over the open spaces. Jeeps fitted with loudspeakers ran to and fro on the campus and in the town. Tall promises were made and lavish parties thrown to gather support of different section of students. Some four hours before the polling began all campaigning came to end. The private meetings and whisperings publicity began. The poll was conducted peacefully and orderly. The result was declared at four in the noon. My department friend was announced as the chairman of the college. We all enjoyed that day by distributing sweets and crackers.

It is more so when the foreign language is learnt at a relatively later stage during adulthood. The most important thing is there is no error that is not eradicable. It goes without saying that we are not thinking of mistakes committed as a result of purely personal factors. The best guarantee of avoiding mistakes is an awareness of their nature and existence and a determination to acquire a high degree of proficiency in the use of English.
